Joseph Samuel Girardi (1er novembre 1928-28 février 2019), mieux connu sous le nom de Joe Girard, était un vendeur américain, conférencier motivateur et auteur. Gerrard a vendu 13 001 voitures chez un concessionnaire Chevrolet entre 1963 et 1978 et a été reconnu dans le Livre Guinness des records comme le vendeur du plus grand nombre de voitures en une seule année (1 425 en 1973). Gerrard est devenu plus tard un conférencier motivateur à succès, donnant régulièrement des présentations à des entreprises clientes telles que General Motors, Hewlett-Packard et Kmart. Il a résidé à Grosse Pointe Shores, Michigan, jusqu'à sa mort.

Gérard était le fils d'Antonino Girardi, "un homme très pauvre de naissance sicilienne". A travaillé depuis la petite enfance. Après avoir abandonné le lycée, il a commencé à travailler comme cireur de chaussures, puis a travaillé comme marchand de journaux au Detroit Free Press, lave-vaisselle, livreur, assembleur de cuisinières et entrepreneur en construction de maisons.

Gerrard, 35 ans à l'époque, est entré dans un concessionnaire automobile de Detroit et a supplié un directeur des ventes sceptique pour un emploi de vendeur. Il a vendu une voiture le premier jour, et le deuxième mois, il était si bon que d'autres vendeurs se sont plaints et l'ont abattu.

Comme expliqué dans Comment vendre n'importe quoi à n'importe qui, Gerrard a décidé au début de sa carrière de vendeur d'adopter le nom "Girard" à des fins commerciales afin d'éviter les confrontations dues à sa race ou de perdre des clients qui auraient pu avoir des préjugés contre les Siciliens et les Italiens.
