Sandra Brown è nata a Waco, in Texas, ed è cresciuta a Fort Worth.
Si è laureata in inglese alla Texas Christian University (TCU) di Fort Worth, ma ha lasciato il college nel 1968 per sposare suo marito, Michael Brown, ex conduttore televisivo e pluripremiato documentarista, per Dust to Dust.
Hanno un figlio, Ryan.
Dopo il suo matrimonio, Brown ha lavorato per KLTV a Tyler come giornalista meteorologico, quindi è tornata nell'area metropolitana di Dallas-Fort Worth dove è diventata giornalista per la versione WFAA-TV di PM Magazine.
