Chemical engineering

Chemical engineering is an engineering field that deals with the study of the operation and design of chemical plants as well as methods for improving production. Chemical engineering uses principles of chemistry, physics, mathematics, biology, and economics to efficiently use, produce, design, transport, and transform energy and materials. The use of nanotechnology and nanomaterials in the laboratory into large-scale industrial processes that transform chemicals, raw materials, living cells, microorganisms, and energy into useful forms and products.

Chemical engineering includes several other engineering disciplines:

  • biochemical engineering
  • bioengineering
  • Genetic Engineering
  • molecular engineering
  • Oil Engineering
  • process engineering
  • chemical reaction engineering
  • Bioprocess engineering
  • Chemical thermodynamics

Chemical engineering is also concerned with the design and development of chemical or transformational industrial processes, the design, construction and management of factories in which the basic process is chemical reactions, and the design of equipment necessary for those processes such as reactors, heat exchangers, distillation columns, and others. And fall under this field the processes of transfer of matter, heat and mass, as well as interactions and multi-stage separation processes. On the other hand, chemical engineering is concerned with the environment and air and water pollution control, and is concerned with natural gas processing, water desalination, biotechnology and drugs. It also works on modeling and simulating industrial processes using physical, chemical and mathematical principles.
