Rafiq Shami is a Syrian novelist, born in 1946 in Damascus, Syria. In 1965, he established the wall magazine “Al Manthal” in his neighborhood and it continued to be published until 1970. He traveled to Germany in 1971, working in workshops and factories, in addition to his studies, from 1971-1979, where he obtained a doctorate in organometallic chemistry. He worked in a large pharmaceutical company from 1980 until 1982, when he submitted his resignation to devote himself to literature. In 1980, he established with other foreign writers the literary group "South Wind" and the union of foreign artists "Polykunst". Together with his colleagues in the South Wind group, he issued 13 volumes containing elites of literature of foreign women writers and writers in Germany from 1980 to 1985.
